United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Campaign Reaches 50% of Target

For Immediate Release
Sarnia, ON (November 10, 2021)
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has hit the half-way mark of the 2021 campaign. The thermometer reached $875,000 donated to the annual fundraiser today with the official commitment of $150,000 from Imperial as part of its corporate donation.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals, corporations, local businesses and volunteers, United Way has achieved 50 per cent of its $1.75 million dollar campaign goal.  “The campaign started off slower in September compared to years past,” said Campaign Chair Vicky Ducharme. “We are lagging behind last year’s pace, there are six weeks remaining to raise another $875,000 and we are concerned.”

Employees and retirees of matching companies are reminded that the deadline to have their donation matched is quickly approaching. Shell’s match cut off is November 19th, followed by ARLANXEO, NOVA and Cabot.

“Late in the 2021 campaign we are starting to see company special events return after a hiatus due to COVID; however, many of the golf tournaments or worksite 50/50’s that supported United Way did not take place,” said Ducharme.  Ducharme encourages companies that are interested in an employee giving campaign to reach out. “It’s as simple as employees donating whatever they are comfortable with, the amount comes off their paycheck and will show on their T-4’s for tax time.”

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton set a target of $1,750,000 in 2021 which is the same amount that was raised in 2020. United Way funds over 40 programs and services in Lambton County.

Donations can be made at the United Way office, 1362 Lambton Mall Road, online at www.theunitedway.on.ca, or by calling 519-336-5452.
