Funding Programs – Unique Funding Opportunities

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has a number of funding programs to assist not-for-profit organizations in addition to the current Funded Organizations in Sarnia-Lambton.

These additional funding programs include:

  • Critical Service Grants; 5% of each campaign will be budgeted for Critical Service Grants each year.
  • Community Response Grants; up to ½% of the campaign total each year.

Community Impact Funding Program

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton is opening their funding process for funding for the period April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.  Our funding priorities are as follows:

FROM POVERTY TO POSSIBILITY

  • Housing Stability – housing programs, emergency shelters, affordable housing
  • Food Security – access to enough nutritious, affordable, and appropriate food
  • Other Necessities of Life – access to clothing, Medical and Dental necessities

HEALTHY PEOPLE, STONG COMMUNITIES

  • Healthy Seniors – seniors in poverty have access to nutritious affordable food, transportation and health supports
  • Personal Wellbeing and Safety – supports for people dealing with addiction
  • Inclusion – supports to reduce isolation and create positive mental health

ALL THAT KIDS CAN BE

  • Learning – helping kids with financial challenges succeed in school and develop key life skills
  • Quality of Life – supporting youth with disabilities and their families
  • Connectedness – helping kids develop positive relationships with their peers and families

 

 

Critical Service Grant Program

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton recognizes the importance of responding quickly to needs as they arise in our community. The Critical Service Grant Program is available year round to community service groups.

Types of Projects Supported

  1. New Services: Startup funds to carry a new service through the development stages until a permanent funding base is sought.
  2. Services not previously funded by the United Way: Any eligible service provider may apply for Critical Service Grant funding for a specific program that addresses the goals within the three Key Strategy areas set by the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton.
  3. Service providers can receive Critical Service Grant funding for a maximum of three years, or apply under the regular funding process.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Funding is available to Community Service Providers throughout Sarnia-Lambton whose services fit within the United Way Key Strategy areas:
    1. From Poverty to Possibility
    2. Healthy People, Strong Communities
    3. All That Kids Can Be
  2. The Statement of the Specific Community Need for the project must be established based on United Way’s program funding policies.
  3. The proposal for the project must utilize the Program Outcome Evaluation Model
  4. Program Outcome Measures/Indicators need to be identified to measure Program Outcomes/Impacts.
  5. Program Outcome Measures/Indicators need to be identified to measure Program Outcomes/Impacts.
  6. The maximum funding a program can receive is generally $20,000 annually.  However, in special circumstances, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Board of Directors may approve up to $30,000.

Expectations of Funded Projects

  1. The United Way and the service provider will agree upon at least two (2) Program Outcome Measurement Tools.
  2. The proposal must be followed through as outlined at the time of acceptance.
  3. Funds will be used for operating purposes only.
  4. Program and budget information must be provided as required by United Way.
  5. The United Way Logo must be publicly displayed on all promotional materials for the program funded through the Critical Service Grant Program in order to strengthen public identification of both the United Way and the service provided.
  6. The Agency must abide by all social media requirements as outlined in the funding contract.

The Community Response Grants

The purpose of the Community Response grants is to assist an agency which may suddenly find itself in an emergency situation; an agency which needs a small amount of funding immediately to take care of a certain, one time problem.

Strategic Sponsorships

The purpose of the Strategic Sponsorship grants is to assist an agency or program with an event or occasion whereby they want to educate or provide a new skill to individuals in our community.  The maximum grant is $2,000 per year and is for non-fundraising events such as information fairs, workshops, gatherings, etc. that support the values and misssion of the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton, and consistent with the three United Way impact areas.
